Set A Guard Over Your Mouth …

This to me is the most important thing in life ! And in any type of relationship , whether it be you and your husband in a fight or you and the stranger you met in the supermarket ! Actually , especially strangers , or people that you are not so close to !

The reason I say this is because people that don’t know you well don’t know how you mean the things you say , you mights say to the woman in the supermarket “wow your baby is so chunky” – meaning that you think it is the cutest thing under the sun , meanwhile that woman has struggled with weight all her life and is already scared that she is passing it on to her baby girl …..

That is just one example , I myself have carried things said to me by people that don’t even play a big part in my life , and because of that , I never say anything that can be taken out of context to anyone I cant explain myself to afterward !

And I think we should all do this , especially with new mothers , the hormones are flying high, the stress , the lack of sleep , it just is such an emotional time , and we should all remember that , and apply it in all areas of our lives !

Timing is Everything ⌛️

Today I find myself thinking about time , and how it really does heal all wounds , in every way imaginable, yes we bear the scars and we change , but yet most of us persevere in the end !

About a year and a half ago we lost my stepdad to suicide , I though my family would never recover and my mom would never be the same again , I thought I would have to pick up all the pieces and put so much pressure on myself to bear my family’s sadness so that they would not feel it as much , look , this post is not about depression and suicide , but just the fact that we all go through unimaginable sadness at one point or another , and yet a year and a half later , we are all living our lives .

The same goes for motherhood, especially being a first time mom , it IS traumatizing, it is overwhelming when those hormones hit at day 4 , and you do think that you will never have your life back and you would never be able to handle this stress !

Yet , here we all are , babies are okay and we are stronger and better for all the pressure and stress we put on ourselves ! 💪🏻

And so the same goes for any other difficult time that we all go through …. it ALWAYS gets better with time !

My dad always said “The only way out is through”

So for those of you that are going through something in your life , hang in there ! It all passes ! ❤️

A Woman’s Body is an Amazing Thing

Let’s talk about pregnancy ….

Oh my word ! I know you get women that LOVE being pregnant and see it as this magical time in your life….

Well for me it was a bit different 🙈🤣

I had ; Nausea, headaches, heartburn, constipation, mood swings, irritation, weight gain, swelling, bladder infection, yeast infections, sore body , dehydration and landed up in the hospital, flu and the list goes on and on !

Although I do agree with the fact that it is a special time , I do believe that it is a kind of right of passage for a woman and it is all so so worth it in the end , it takes so much out your body !

In some ways my body is so different after giving birth , I had a c section so I have the well known belly flap , I cant hold my pee anymore ; it needs to happen RIGHT NOW 😂

But in other ways I am amazed at how well my body has recovered , the heartburn is gone , although the belly flap is still there it is already significantly smaller , I have no bladder issues anymore, my body feels healthy again (except the excessive hair loss at the moment) .

I find this fascinating , how your body can endure all that and only have little tell tails about it , yes I have stretch marks and my body looks a bit different, but I am healthy and I have a healthy little baby girl and thats all that matters ❤️

Thankful 🙏🏻💪🏻

Lets Have That Food Talk …

Solids , am I right !?

The internet is the devil , and so are mom groups and all parenting books out there ! 🤪

It all is just so confusing , the one site contradicts the other one , they one book says this , the other one says the EXACT opposite , the one mom says solids before 6 months , the other one says hell no ! 🤣

I am almost scared to post a question on one of these groups , because I know it will be flooded with comments and all being different , as a first time mom this is just a nightmare , and makes you even more stressed than you were before the post !

My baby girl is 4 months old now , and I am a first time mom , and the whole “follow your instincts ” thing only goes so far if its your first baby (well for me anyway)My experience so far is to make a mom friend , either a new mom just like you (which in my case helped because we had the same anxiety over the same things and you don’t feel so alone) or an experienced one who’s opinions and advice you trust

One thing I must say is that moms everywhere are so eager to help , it has been an amazing experience so far !

So whether you fed your baby for the fist time at 4 months or 6 months , or dis co sleeping, breastfed or bottle fed your baby , as long as he/she is still alive and mostly happy I would say well done ! Being a mom is hard !Angelique

Baby Sense

So in South Africa , a book was published called “baby sense”; this book basically discusses stimulation and overstimulation in babies and what not to do.

The book revolves around specific allowed awake times for each age , as well as the usual dark room, limited playtime, and the “put your baby to sleep drowsy but awake”.

Although this book has helped a lot with establishing sleep patterns , Paige is 4 months old now , and according to the book she is only allowed to stay awake for 90 minutes between naps.

HAHA …. that just does not work for her , she sometimes stays awake for 2 hours or only half an hour between naps , and I have tried EVERYTHING to try and stick to that 90 minutes .

This to me just proves once again that every baby is different and every mom is different, and what works for the one does not work for the other one .

This is especially confusing for new mothers , because we tend to take any advice where we can to prepare ourselves and when it doesn’t work; we immediately think that it must be us that is doing something wrong.

Don’t get me wrong , I still do everything I read and ask what other mothers did , but I guess what changed for me was that; if it didn’t work , I knew it wasn’t something I am doing wrong or that I am failing as a mother , my baby is just different 👌🏻

I find it amazing how mothers tend to stick together , you can go up to a mother in a supermarket and ask her something and she will just be so helpful and give advice freely ! I find this new community I am apart of amazing ! 💜

So to all the mommies out there struggling , keep on keeping on !
